Union Minister Calls for Enhanced Localisation and Cost Competitiveness in India's EV Sector

Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, emphasized the critical need for India's electric vehicle (EV) industry to bolster its cost competitiveness, localization efforts, and manufacturing capabilities. Speaking at an event organized by the Ministry of Heavy Industries, he highlighted that these advancements are crucial for achieving an affordable and economically sustainable transition to electric mobility nationwide.

Kumaraswamy underscored the government's commitment through schemes like the ₹11,900-crore PM E-DRIVE, which has already provided incentives to over 23.2 lakh electric vehicles. The scheme also aims to significantly expand charging infrastructure by supporting the development of more than 72,000 public charging points. He stressed that greater localization, combined with initiatives like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes for automobiles and advanced chemistry cell batteries, are vital for strengthening domestic EV manufacturing and infrastructure.
