A new report by Bolt.Earth, 'State of Charge: Exclusive EV Data Report 2026', reveals a distinct split in India's EV charging patterns: two-wheelers account for the vast majority of charging sessions, while four-wheelers consume most of the electricity. In the current fiscal year (FY26-27 YTD), two-wheelers represented 78.1% of charging sessions across six major metro markets, an increase from 71.6% in FY24-25.
Conversely, four-wheelers, despite making up only 16% of sessions, contributed to 67.3% of the energy consumed, a rise from 58.1%. This data highlights the critical need for India's EV charging infrastructure to be designed for both high-volume two-wheeler charging and the greater energy demands of four-wheelers. The report also noted faster growth in emerging Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, suggesting an expanding EV footprint beyond major urban centers.
