TL;DR
Toyota has launched its first all-electric SUV, the Urban Cruiser Ebella, in India, featuring two battery options with a range up to 543 km and a multi-pathway electrification strategy for the market.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor has officially entered the Indian electric vehicle market with the launch of its first pure electric SUV, the Urban Cruiser Ebella. This model, which is a badge-engineered version of Maruti Suzuki's e-Vitara, made its debut with pre-bookings commencing on January 20, 2026. The Urban Cruiser Ebella is manufactured at Suzuki Motors' Gujarat plant and is also slated for export to European markets.
The electric SUV is offered with two lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs: a 49 kWh unit and a larger 61 kWh pack. The larger battery provides an ARAI-certified range of up to 543 km (337 miles). While both battery options deliver 189 Nm of torque, the 61 kWh pack produces 128 kW of power, compared to the 106 kW from the 49 kWh unit. Expected to start around ₹19 lakh, the Urban Cruiser Ebella aims to compete with other mid-size electric SUVs in the Indian market.
Toyota emphasizes a 'multi-pathway' electrification strategy for India, incorporating internal combustion engines, strong hybrids, and battery electric vehicles. The company anticipates EVs primarily as city cars for the near future, with most customers preferring home or work charging. Toyota is also partnering with Jio-bp to expand charging infrastructure.
