Toyota and NISE Collaborate to Test Mirai Hydrogen FCEV in India

TL;DR

Toyota and NISE are partnering to test the Mirai hydrogen fuel-celled EV in India's diverse conditions, aiming to advance hydrogen mobility and support national decarbonization goals.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has partnered with the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, to conduct real-world testing of the Toyota Mirai, a hydrogen fuel-celled Electric Vehicle (FCEV), in Indian conditions. This collaboration aims to assess the Mirai's performance across India's diverse climates, terrains, and driving scenarios.

Under the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), NISE will undertake a comprehensive study focusing on the Mirai's fuel efficiency, real-world range, refueling patterns, drivability, and overall adaptability to Indian roads and traffic conditions. The findings from this study are expected to play a crucial role in promoting the early adoption of hydrogen mobility technologies in the country.

This initiative aligns with India's ambitious Green Hydrogen Mission and its broader decarbonization and clean transportation goals, which include achieving 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity and 50% renewable energy by 2030, and ultimately Net-Zero by 2070. The project represents a significant step forward in advancing hydrogen mobility within India.
