Skoda Plans Return of Diesel Superb to India in 2027 as CBU Import

TL;DR

Skoda is set to bring back the diesel-powered Superb sedan to India in 2027 as a CBU import, targeting the premium segment with its unique powertrain offering.

Skoda is preparing to reintroduce the Superb luxury sedan to the Indian market in the first half of 2027, with a significant highlight being the return of a diesel powertrain. The flagship sedan is expected to feature a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine, marking Skoda's first diesel-powered model in India since the company phased out diesel vehicles before the BS6 emission norms in 2020. This new Superb will be imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and is anticipated to be positioned at the pinnacle of Skoda's Indian lineup.

Current estimates suggest a price point of around Rs 55 lakh to Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom) for the imported Superb. While this pricing is higher than previous locally assembled versions, the reintroduction of a diesel option aims to offer a unique proposition in a market currently dominated by petrol and hybrid premium sedans. The diesel engine's strong low-speed torque and better cruising economy are expected to appeal to buyers covering long highway distances, distinguishing it from competitors like the Toyota Camry which features a petrol-hybrid powertrain. Skoda hopes the India-EU free trade agreement will improve the economic viability of CBU imports when it comes into effect.
