Mahindra Extends Battery-as-a-Service Model to Entire Electric SUV Lineup

TL;DR

Mahindra has expanded its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program to include its entire electric SUV lineup, making EV ownership more affordable with lower upfront costs and usage-based battery financing.

Mahindra has expanded its innovative Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership program to encompass its entire portfolio of electric SUVs (eSUVs). This extension means that all of Mahindra's 'born EVs' are now available under this program, which aims to make electric vehicle ownership more accessible and affordable by separating the cost of the battery from the vehicle.

Under the BaaS model, customers can purchase the electric SUV at a lower upfront cost, with battery financing involving an additional effective usage cost. For instance, prices under BaaS start at ₹12.65 lakh for the XEV 9S and ₹13.90 lakh for the XEV 9e (all ex-showroom), with a usage cost of ₹3.75 per km for the battery. This approach addresses a significant barrier to EV adoption by reducing the initial purchase price.

By broadening the BaaS program, Mahindra is reinforcing its commitment to fostering electric mobility in India and offering flexible ownership solutions. This strategic move is expected to attract more buyers to its electric SUV range, contributing to the growth of the electric vehicle market.
