India experienced its highest-ever monthly electric vehicle (EV) retail sales in July 2026, registering 327,901 units and marking a substantial 66% year-on-year growth. This surge indicates that nearly one in every eight vehicles sold across the country during the month was electric, according to data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). The remarkable performance was observed across all key vehicle categories, with electric two-wheelers surpassing the two-lakh unit mark for the first time, achieving an 11.2% market share in July 2026.
Electric three-wheelers solidified their position as the dominant choice, securing a 65.1% market share. Even the commercial vehicle segment witnessed increasing electrification, with EVs accounting for 3.57% of retail sales. Passenger electric vehicles also recorded robust growth, soaring by 83% year-on-year and maintaining a 7.9% market share, a notable increase from 5.1% in July 2025. FADA Vice President Sai Giridhar highlighted that this demonstrates a significant shift where electric has become the default choice, not merely an alternative, in the three-wheeler segment.
