TL;DR
Honda is revamping its global EV strategy, canceling two models, but is doubling down on India as a key market for localized EV production and growth.
Honda Motor is undergoing a significant global restructuring of its electric vehicle (EV) roadmap, with India slated to play an increasingly strategic role in the company's future growth plans. Amid a challenging earnings outlook and slower-than-anticipated EV demand in key international markets, Honda has canceled two models from its upcoming '0 Series' global electric vehicle program, the SUV and the Saloon, shortly before their scheduled production.
Despite these global adjustments, Honda has reaffirmed India's importance in its long-term electrification strategy. A spokesperson for Honda Cars India confirmed that the smaller '0 Series Alpha' electric SUV remains on track for production in India with a high degree of localization. This model, initially previewed as the Honda 0 α (Alpha) SUV concept, is expected to go on sale in India early next year and compete in the burgeoning mid-size electric SUV segment.
