Delhi's Public Transport Electrification Gains Momentum with New Bus Inductions

TL;DR

Delhi is adding 200 new electric buses this month, aiming for a total of 7,500 by year-end, supported by expanded charging infrastructure.

The Delhi government is significantly expanding its electric bus fleet, with an additional 200 electric buses set to be inducted this month. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to accelerate the electrification of public transport in the national capital. Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh recently reviewed the progress of these efforts, highlighting the city's commitment to sustainable mobility.

Currently, Delhi operates a fleet of over 4,000 electric buses, and projections indicate that this number will grow to 7,500 by the end of the year. To support this expansion, electric charging infrastructure has been established in 44 bus depots across the city. Furthermore, under the PM e-Drive Phase I and II initiatives, EV charging networks are actively being developed in 36 additional depots, ensuring robust support for the growing electric fleet.
