Delhi-NCR Grapples with Significant Shortfall in EV Charging Infrastructure

TL;DR

Delhi-NCR faces a huge deficit in EV charging infrastructure, with over 27,000 fewer points than needed, hindering clean mobility efforts.

Delhi currently faces a substantial deficit in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, with only 8,998 charging points available against a requirement of 36,177, representing a shortfall of over 27,000 points. While the Delhi government aims to nearly double its charging points to 16,070 by the end of 2026, a significant gap of more than 20,000 points will still remain.

The situation is similarly challenging in neighboring NCR districts. Gurgaon and Faridabad currently lack any public EV charging points, despite identified requirements. Noida has only 69 points against a need for 150, while Greater Noida has a mere three points with a requirement for 13 more. This infrastructure gap is a critical hurdle for Delhi-NCR's clean mobility ambitions.
