BEML Unveils India's First Indigenous 60-Ton Electric Mining Dump Truck

TL;DR

BEML has launched India's first indigenously developed 60-ton electric dump truck for mining and infrastructure, expanding EV technology into heavy industry.

India's electric vehicle transformation is expanding beyond passenger cars and two-wheelers, with state-owned BEML Limited launching a 60-ton electric dump truck for the demanding mining and infrastructure sectors. The new BH60-EV, described as the country's first indigenously designed and developed 60-ton electric dump truck, was unveiled at BEML's Mysuru Complex on October 2, 2026. This move signifies the company's commitment to bringing electric mobility to heavy-duty industrial applications, traditionally dominated by diesel-powered machinery.

The BH60-EV boasts a payload capacity of 54,500 kg and features a 1,000 kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack. Powering the truck is a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) integrated with a robust gearbox, engineered to deliver the high power and torque necessary for arduous mining conditions. This electric powertrain ensures zero tailpipe emissions, aligning with India's broader shift towards cleaner industrial operations.

This is not BEML's inaugural electric dump truck, as the company previously launched a 35-ton model on April 10, 2026. The introduction of the 60-ton variant demonstrates an expansion into higher-capacity electric equipment, highlighting BEML's focus on indigenous engineering for specialized heavy machinery for both the Indian and global markets.
