Battery Reliability and Charging Infrastructure Cited as Key Hurdles for EV Adoption in India: Bain Survey

TL;DR

A Bain survey indicates that battery reliability and inadequate charging infrastructure are major concerns hindering EV adoption among Indian consumers.

A recent Global Automotive Consumer Survey by Bain & Company reveals that concerns over battery reliability and insufficient charging infrastructure remain significant barriers to electric vehicle (EV) adoption in India. While there's growing interest in EVs, 52 percent of skeptical Indian consumers cited battery reliability as a purchase deterrent, followed by inadequate charging infrastructure (44 percent) and long charging times (43 percent).

The survey findings underscore the challenges automakers face in converting consumer interest into actual EV purchases. Other factors like high vehicle prices (32 percent) and insufficient driving range (31 percent) also contribute to consumer skepticism. Addressing these critical concerns related to battery performance, charging convenience, and affordability will be essential for accelerating India's transition to widespread electric mobility.
