TL;DR
Yamaha India confirms local production and upcoming launch of the R2 sportbike, alongside plans for the NMax 155 and other new models.
Yamaha India is reportedly preparing to introduce the R2 sportbike to the Indian market, with plans for the motorcycle to be manufactured entirely in India and also exported to other global markets. The R2 is intended as a step up from the popular R15, and its launch is anticipated in the coming months, aligning with the festive season.
The R2, codenamed 070, is expected to be powered by a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with a displacement of around 200cc. This setup aims to offer a clear step up in performance compared to the R15's 155cc engine, while still maintaining good fuel efficiency. Yamaha's strategy is to offer a balance of performance and daily usability.
In addition to the R2, Yamaha India is also likely to launch the NMax 155 scooter this year, further expanding its premium scooter offerings. The company is also working on multiple other 300-450cc products, including cruiser and ADV body styles, which are expected to debut further down the line.
