The Model Y L, which debuted in China in 2025, features a three-row seating layout designed to cater to families seeking more space than the standard five-seat Model Y.
The move comes as Tesla aims to revive its sales in India, a market that has presented significant challenges due to high import tariffs ranging from 70 percent to 110 percent on fully built vehicles. These duties previously made Tesla's premium EVs prohibitively expensive, leading to tepid demand. The Model Y L will be shipped from Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory, the same source for the standard Model Y variants currently imported into India.
