The consideration to bring the Peaq to India comes as Skoda shifts its immediate focus towards top-tier imported products. Brand Director for Skoda Auto India, Ashish Gupta, confirmed the premium EV remains under active consideration to help define the brand's local identity. The strategy involves introducing a well-equipped, premium vehicle rather than a basic model at an elevated price point, especially given the competitive challenges smaller global electric offerings like the Epiq face in the Indian market.
For a sustainable long-term presence, Skoda recognizes the necessity of transitioning to a highly localized engineering setup, though establishing such an ecosystem requires significant development time. The Peaq will feature advanced lithium-ion nickel-manganese-cobalt battery chemistries with capacities of 63 kWh or 91 kWh. A top-tier 90x variant is expected to offer a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive architecture generating 299 horsepower, while single-motor, rear-wheel-drive variants will produce up to 286 horsepower.
