The highly anticipated next-generation Toyota Fortuner has been observed undergoing preliminary testing, indicating its advanced stage of development. With a global debut anticipated in mid-2026, its introduction to the Indian market is likely to follow by late 2026 or early 2027.
The upcoming Fortuner is expected to utilize an updated IMV ladder-frame platform, which it will share with the new Hilux. Powering the vehicle will likely be the familiar 2.7-liter petrol and 2.8-liter diesel engine options, with the diesel variant expected to retain Toyota's 48V mild-hybrid system, already available in India's Fortuner Neo Drive. Transmission choices will include a six-speed manual and a torque-converter automatic for both engines.
Significant upgrades are expected in terms of features, including the confirmation of Toyota Safety Sense for enhanced active safety. Other anticipated additions include dual 12.3-inch displays, Level-2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, ventilated and powered front seats, and a sunroof, aiming to address previous criticisms regarding the current model's dated cabin technology.
