MG Motor India to Introduce New Plug-in Hybrid SUV Models and Investment Plans

TL;DR

MG Motor India, in partnership with JSW Group, is set to launch new plug-in hybrid SUV models, including a 7-seater, and will invest ₹3,000–₹4,000 crore in India as part of its expansion strategy.

MG Motor India, under its new joint venture with JSW Group (JSW MG Motor India), is set to significantly expand its product portfolio in 2026 with the introduction of four new models, including exciting plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUVs. This strategic move aligns with a planned investment of between ₹3,000 crore and ₹4,000 crore in the country over the next couple of years. The company is poised to launch a new 7-seater PHEV SUV, expected to hit showrooms by October 2026, which will be based on the Wuling Starlight 560 SUV. India is increasingly embracing hybrid technologies, and the arrival of mass-market PHEVs marks a new phase in the country's automotive landscape. The upcoming MG PHEV SUV, internally codenamed Project 520, is expected to feature a powertrain that combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a single electric motor and a 20.5kWh battery pack. This setup delivers a total system output of 197hp and 230Nm, with a claimed electric-only range of approximately 100 km. The investment also includes the launch of the Majestor SUV, with pre-bookings already open and prices expected in April 2026.
