Karnataka plans a dedicated EV City near Bengaluru over 100 acres to foster innovation, testing, and manufacturing across the electric mobility value chain, strengthening its EV ecosystem.
The Karnataka government is moving forward with plans to establish a dedicated Electric Vehicle (EV) City near Bengaluru, an initiative aimed at significantly bolstering the state's electric mobility ecosystem. This ambitious proposal was a central discussion point during an industry consultation held on February 5, 2026, chaired by IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge.
The envisioned EV City will span over 100 acres within a two-hour drive from Bengaluru. It is designed to serve as a comprehensive hub for innovation, testing, and validation across the entire electric vehicle value chain. The initiative seeks to foster research and development, facilitate testing and certification for local companies, and provide a single location to support EV manufacturers, battery technology firms, component suppliers, and mobility startups.
Karnataka already accounts for nearly one-fifth of India's EV sales and boasts approximately 5,400 public charging stations. The new EV City will further include a Centre of Excellence for EVs and battery technologies, alongside a talent academy offering training programs for both engineering professionals and shop-floor workers. Common facilities will be available on a pay-as-you-use basis to lower entry barriers for emerging startups in the sector.
