Hyundai Gears Up for Year-End Launch of New Compact Electric SUV in India

TL;DR

Hyundai plans to launch a new compact electric SUV, likely based on the global Inster model and priced between Rs 13-18 lakh, by the end of 2026 in India, featuring advanced infotainment and Level 2 ADAS.

Hyundai is reportedly planning to launch a new compact electric SUV in India by the end of 2026. This upcoming e-SUV, internally codenamed HE1i, has been sighted during testing, revealing several details about its design and features. Positioned as a compact electric SUV, it is expected to be competitively priced between Rs. 13 lakh and Rs. 18 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), aiming to capture a significant share in the burgeoning EV market.

The new electric SUV is anticipated to be based on Hyundai's global model, the Inster, a compact electric SUV already available internationally. It is likely to utilize the E-GMP (K) platform, which underpins the Inster EV. While some reports suggested it might borrow battery packs from the Kia Sorento EV, it's more probable that Hyundai will equip it with battery options directly from the Inster EV, offering choices like 42kWh and 49kWh packs, with a claimed WLTP range of up to 355km.

In terms of technology and features, Hyundai has confirmed that the new electric SUV will include the Pleos infotainment unit and a Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) suite, enhancing both connectivity and safety. Upon its launch, this new Hyundai SUV is set to compete with established models in the compact electric SUV segment, such as the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, and the Kia Syros EV.
