TL;DR
Delhi's EV Policy 2026 is now in effect, offering significant incentives and outlining a phased transition away from petrol and CNG vehicles, backed by substantial investment in charging infrastructure.
The Delhi government officially launched its ambitious Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2026 on July 1, 2026, introducing a broad spectrum of incentives aimed at accelerating the city's transition to green mobility. This updated policy replaces the previous framework with an expanded strategy encompassing financial benefits, regulatory reforms, and infrastructure development. Key provisions include scrappage incentives of up to ₹1 lakh and a 100% exemption on road tax and registration fees for eligible electric vehicles priced below ₹30 lakh.
A significant aspect of the new policy is a phased plan to discontinue the registration of new petrol and CNG auto-rickshaws from January 2027, followed by new petrol and CNG two-wheelers from April 2028. The government has committed to investing approximately ₹15,000 crore over the next four years to bolster Delhi's electric mobility ecosystem and reduce vehicular emissions. Furthermore, plans are underway to establish over 30,000 public EV charging points across the city, supported by a single-window clearance system to expedite the setup of charging and battery-swapping stations.
