Delhi Government Prepares to Unveil New Electric Vehicle Policy Next Month

TL;DR

Delhi government is set to unveil its new EV Policy 2.0 next month, proposing a phased ban on petrol two-wheelers and CNG three-wheelers, and incentives for hybrid vehicles.

The Delhi government is expected to present its revised electric vehicle (EV) policy, dubbed 'EV Policy 2.0', to the Cabinet in the coming week, with implementation anticipated by July. The existing EV policy, which has seen multiple extensions, is set to expire on June 30th.

The draft policy, which was opened for public feedback in April, includes controversial proposals such as a phased ban on new petrol two-wheeler registrations from April 2028 and new CNG three-wheeler registrations from January 2027, compelling these categories to transition entirely to electric by the specified dates. A significant point of discussion is also the provision of a 50% road tax waiver for hybrid vehicles priced up to ₹30 lakh, a measure intended to encourage faster adoption of electric vehicles by supporting hybrid models in the interim.
